ABOUT US
Swarm Studios + Gallery (Spring 2006) was developed by Svea Lin Vezzone with the guidance and support
of a small visionary team of people wanting to see more good things happen in Oakland. Comprising a large
gallery, project space (small gallery for conceptual work and video) and 11 nonresidential
studio spaces, Swarm is site and catalyst for Oakland's creative scene. The name "Swarm" emerged from
the concept of collaboration. Swarm has presented numerous programs, including artist talks, presentations,
lectures, and other special events.
Svea Lin Vezzone (Owner/Director) is an artist, curator, and overall enthusiast for the Bay Area art map. After studying
photography and dance in Mexico, then landing a one-year stint at the Smithsonian Institution in DC, she settled back to her native
Bay Area to pursue curatorial work. Before opening Swarm, she was the Director of Exhibitions at Pro Arts, a 35-year arts
organization in Oakland and Art Director for Tea Party magazine. Svea has worked in the collections departments at the
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Oakland Museum of California. Svea serves on the Alameda County Arts Commission and is
a core member of the art collective Quorum San Francisco (www.quorum-sf.org).
Svea holds a Masters degree in Museum Studies from John F. Kennedy University.
Prior to working at Swarm Gallery, Andrea Antonaccio (Associate Director) served as the Assistant Director and formerly
Registrar at Catharine Clark Gallery, SF. Before that, Andrea was a master printer for Trillium Press, Brisbane, CA
(currently SF Electric Works) and through them collaborated with artists such as J. Otto, Kara Maria, Sandow Birk, and
Timothy Cummings on editions of their work. Andrea currently teaches a professional practices course at the College
of Marin, Kentfield, CA, where she also directs the campus gallery. Andrea's educational background includes a BFA
from the San Francisco Art Institute and abroad programs in Florence, Italy and London, England. She has served as a
studio assistant for Nathan Oliveira and Inez Storer, among others.
